Kingston Weight Management
Are you interested in getting help to lose weight?
The impact of COVID-19 has made us aware of the importance of keeping our weight within a healthy range, through eating well and getting more exercise.
Exercise significantly reduces risk of serious and common diseases like Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and some cancers. Kingston Healthy Lifestyles service offers FREE weight loss support for adults living, working, studying or registered with a GP locally. One of the national organisations we work with can help you to make small, practical and realistic steps to lose weight, from the comfort of your own home. We can work with you alone, or in a group, through digital and mentor support. More than simply looking good or focusing on the scales, weight loss supported by a service, alongside other participants, can help you feel more confident, healthier and happier.
Past service users say it can re-energise your life. We can assist you in choosing which support might suit you and your lifestyle best.
To be eligible for one of our free 12 week programmes, you need to be aged 16 or over, and have:
- A Body Mass Index (BMI) of 28 or above
- Or a BMI equal to or above 25 with a weight related comorbidity
- Or a BMI of 23 or above, and be from a Black African, African-Caribbean, South Asian or Chinese ethnic background
Programmes offered by Kingston:
Slimming World offers a ‘no hunger’ programme, and also runs a separate offer for pre-natal, ante-natal and breastfeeding mothers. Some sessions are moving to a ‘venue & virtual’ mix as lockdown eases, with a return to smaller face to face groups next.
Second Nature is our exciting new service, for those aged 18 and over. It uses a range of digital technologies to assist clients in changing their habits, and has worked well for many men in particular, in other areas of the country.
National Diabetes Prevention Programme is an NHS service offered to people at higher risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes. You may be at higher risk due to your weight, ethnicity, blood pressure, family history and age. Around 3 in 5 cases can be prevented or delayed by maintaining a healthy weight, eating well and being active.
Please contact Kingston directly to discuss your needs including your eligibility, and take advantage of this free offer. You can get signed up at any time, and can refer yourself.
